Milton Keynes 3–1 Aylesbury United Women: A Positive Performance… With Added Weather Drama! 🌧️⚽💚
Aylesbury United Women travelled to Milton Keynes today for what turned out to be 90 minutes of football, followed by an unexpected audition for an extreme weather survival programme! 😂
The match started in hot and humid conditions, with everyone wondering whether we’d remembered enough water🌞. Fast-forward to the second half and the heavens decided we definitely hadn’t brought enough towels! 🌧️🤣
From the first whistle, Aylesbury started brightly, dominating possession, defending well and creating the better chances. We put Milton Keynes under plenty of pressure and played some really good football across the pitch.
Despite having the majority of the ball and looking the more dangerous side, it was Milton Keynes who managed to open the scoring.
But Aylesbury weren’t having any of it.
The team responded brilliantly, continuing to play our football, creating chances and putting the pressure straight back on the home side.
And just five minutes later, the equaliser arrived!
Some fantastic pressing from Lisa and Jenni saw them win the ball high up the pitch as Milton Keynes attempted to play out from the back. The ball fell nicely for Mack, who made no mistake and found the back of the net. 1–1! 💚👏
At half-time, the teams went in level, with Aylesbury feeling really positive after an excellent first-half performance.
Defensively, we were strong too, with Kadijah throwing in some excellent sliding tackles — although we’re not entirely sure whether she was tackling or aqua plaining!
Maddie provided calm consistency on the ball and plenty of pace at the back, while Clare and Jo used their strength and physicality to shut down attacks on the wings. The defence looked balanced, organised and solid.
Then came the second half… and the weather decided to join the match rain absolutely hammering it down, leaving players, subs, coaches and supporters completely soaked. At one point, we weren’t sure whether we were playing football or auditioning for Waterworld 2! 🌊😂
Despite the conditions, Aylesbury continued exactly where we had left off — dominating possession, creating chances and playing some really good football.
Unfortunately, there was just one problem…
The ball absolutely refused to go in the goal. 🤦‍♀️
Around 20 minutes into the second half, Milton Keynes regained the lead against the run of play as the lack of subs meant tired legs began to show and their attacks finally started to break through.
Then, with around 15 minutes remaining, the hosts added a third to make it 3–1.
The scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the full story.
Aylesbury had plenty of possession, created a lot of chances and played some excellent football throughout the game. We battled hard, kept going despite the conditions and never stopped trying to get ourselves back into it.
Unfortunately, it was just one of those days when we couldnt quite find the back of the net — plenty of football, plenty of chances, plenty of rain!
A really positive performance from the team, and plenty to take forward. 💚☺️
