On Wednesday 16 September, Thame residents, including Thame Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert and Deputy Mayor Cllr Andy Wainwright, Stuart, Tim, David, Oli and Paul set off to Montesson for their annual cycle to our twinning town in France! This year is a particularly special ride as both towns celebrate the Silver Jubilee, 25 years of twinning!

💙 A fantastic morning of dementia support at Unity Health on behalf of our Neighbourhood.
Last Saturday 12th September, we opened our doors for a Dementia Support Morning, and we were delighted to welcome over 100 people from Unity Health, The Cross Keys and Haddenham Medical Centre looking for advice, information and support.
A huge thank you to Nikki and Sandy, our Social Prescribers, who helped make the morning such a success, and to the brilliant local organisations who gave up their time to come along and support our patients and their families including:
💙 Forget Me Knot Café, Chinnor
💙 Thame Senior Friendship Centre
💙 The Dementia Assistant
Having local organisations alongside our own team really showed the value of community and neighbourhood working. People could come along for an informal chat, find out what support is available locally, and speak directly to organisations who understand the challenges of living with dementia.
We also used the morning as an opportunity to provide more personalised clinical support for Unity Health patients living with dementia. During the morning, patients could have a longer GP appointment for a review and, where needed, access things such as blood tests, diabetes checks and physiotherapy appointments.
This is exactly what good neighbourhood working should look like — bringing health services and our local community together, making it easier for people to get the right support and helping our patients feel that they are being looked after as a whole person, not just for one individual health issue.
A massive thank you to everyone who came along, supported the morning and helped make it such a positive event. ❤️

Huge congratulations to everyone in Steeple Claydon for this wonderful achievement - the village is looking great and that is all down to everyone’s hard work.

Today, Chiltern Railways has moved into public ownership. This is part of a wider government effort to bring the essentials in life back under stronger public control and finally deliver the rail services people deserve.
Most importantly, it comes with plans for improved service across the Chiltern network. Watch this space for changes to Aylesbury services!
From today, passengers whose train is cancelled will also be able to use another operator’s service at no extra cost.
The Rail Minister Lord Hendy said:
“As we set up Great British Railways, we're putting passengers first. It will not happen overnight, but we will build a railway the country can trust and rely on and that will create growth, jobs and homes.”

🏁 THAT’S A WRAP FROM KOP HILL CLIMB! 🏁
What a weekend. Two fantastic days, 300 extraordinary cars and motorcycles, packed grandstands and one very happy – if slightly hoarse – commentator! 🎙️
Day Two brought a few rain showers, but they certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the Kop Hill faithful. The grandstands stayed packed right through to the very last car up the hill – a brilliant sight and testament to just how special this event is.
It was an absolute joy to be part of it and particularly to work alongside marshals Alan and Fay, Bob on the starting block, and Dan Towers, bringing the motorcycle stories to life on commentary.
A great team to share a very busy weekend with.
And, of course, a huge thank you to everyone who brought a car or bike, volunteered, marshalled, organised, supported and – most importantly – came along and filled those grandstands.
More than a century of motoring history, from pioneering machinery to modern performance, all coming alive on one famous hill.
Kop Hill Climb, you were epic. Thank you – and hopefully we’ll do it all again next year! 🏁🎙️❤️

Today, many of our colleagues gathered in the Peace Garden at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to commemorate National Suicide Memorial Day for Health and Care Workers.
The memorial gave colleagues the time to remember those lost to suicide, stand alongside those experiencing its impact and reflect our Trust’s commitment to everyone's health and wellbeing.
Stefan, our Head of Chaplaincy, reflected on the importance of being there for one another:
“We don’t always need the right words or all the answers. Sometimes, what someone needs most is another person to listen without judgement, stay alongside them and remind them that they don’t have to carry their pain alone.
A simple question ‘How are you, really?’ and being prepared to listen to the answer can be the beginning of something that changes a person’s path.
Compassion doesn’t take away someone’s pain, but it can help them carry it. Sometimes, that is where hope begins.
Perhaps the most important thing we can take from today’s memorial is a commitment to be there for one another.”

Wow! What a day! 🎉
Our Race Across Aylesbury event was so much fun today. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such an enjoyable event!
To see so many enthusiastic teams and local businesses getting involved has made this such a brilliant and rewarding day. You could really feel the buzz around the town, and it was fantastic to see so much support for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity.
This isn’t our full wrap-up of the event, you can expect that next week, but we just wanted to say a massive thank you to you all. The feedback we’ve received so far has been fantastic, and it was brilliant to see everyone having so much fun!

Fiona, our FNH@Home team lead, talks about the amazing "empathy" shown by her nurses and healthcare assistants.
She knows how much hospice at home care means. “We give the patients dignity,” she says, “and we allow the family to just be family, rather than carers.”
Fiona tells her own story of a family visit to an end-of-life patient. Fiona was caring for an elderly lady, and her husband asked Fiona to put some perfume on her, as he had never known her without perfume. “Which one do you like the most?” Fiona asked him. He chose their favourite.
This personal care is part of the support provided by FNH@Home, as well as relieving symptoms such as pain and nausea and supporting the family. In the last financial year, the number of patients being cared for at home increased by 85%. This service is fully funded by the Charity.

After closing time today, Saturday 19th September, The Akeman Inn will close its doors for a little while as we begin an exciting new chapter.
As many of you know, we’re now part of Acorn Pubs, a collection of characterful pubs and inns across the Home Counties, operated by Brunning and Price. This gives us the opportunity to give The Akeman Inn some well-deserved love, with a refreshed interior, updated food and drinks offering, and a brand-new name.
When we reopen in early November, we’ll be welcoming you back as The Crooked Billet — a new identity inspired by the original name of the pub. 🤎
While our name and look may be changing, the things that matter most will stay the same. Our wonderful team will be back, ready to welcome you, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.

I’m still pushing for a solution to the sudden closure of two of our Post Offices in Aylesbury.
Last week I met with the Post Office Minister, Kate Dearden, having also written to her.
This is what she has said:
“While the Government does not direct Post Office Ltd in decisions about specific branch locations, I am assured that the company is working to secure a replacement to the branches as quickly as possible.
I appreciate the importance of ensuring local communities continue to have access to the services on which they rely and understand the concerns that these closures have caused in Aylesbury.”
I am glad to hear that she understands the situation and has sought her own assurances from Post Office Ltd.
The latest I’ve heard from the Post Office themselves is that it takes around six months for a new branch to open, to find and approve an operator, get facilities and property works finished and train staff.
So I am not hopeful that we will get a solution quickly but I will keep pushing for progress.
In the meantime, a reminder of the nearest branches: Elmhurst Post Office (HP20 2ER), Meadowcroft Post Office (HP19 9HZ) and Parton Road Post Office (HP20 1NG).
